Late last year I met some awesome ladies, who were creating a new tv program for kids about design and recycling. They were talking about giving new life to old materials, like plastics, and how to inspire kids to take another look at waste. Needless to say, I got involved.

They’ve been working like crazy to make this program happen and the result of all the hard work will be on Dutch tv this Sunday! So tune in March 17th 12:20 to Zapp on NL3 for RecyCOOL. This first episode is all about plastic and features Precious Waste for some inspiration.

Dutch Design Week 2012

It’s been a busy year and already it’s time for the next Dutch Design Week in Eindhoven. This year I’m showing two projects:

Precious Waste is part of Moving Materials by Material Sense. It’s a moving and growing exhibition of innovative materials and innovative material use.  Starting at the Red Dot Design Museum in  Essen, now in Eindhoven and after that Lancaster, Kortrijk, Paris and Helsinki will be visited by this exhibition. You can find the exhibition at Capital D, on Strijp-S.

A new project is Nomadic Desk Lamp. This lamp was designed as part of a project on the future of  working. This exhibition is part of *Stadhuis Meets Design at Eindhoven’s city hall during the Dutch Design Week and will stay there for at least two weeks after. More info can be found here.

Precious Waste in Boijmans van Beuningen

Tot en met 26 februari is in museum Boijmans van Beuningen de tentoonstelling ‘Nieuwe Energie in Design en Kunst’ te zien. In deze tentoonstelling wordt het verhaal verteld van een grote groep vormgevers en kunstenaars die op vernieuwende manieren met het gebruik van energie omgaan.

De tentoonstelling is verdeeld over zeven zalen met elk een thema. Hierin is werk te zien van Theo Jansen, Dunne & Raby, Joris Laarman, Edhv, Studio Drift, Panamarenko en vele anderen. Daarbij is Precious Waste is onderdeel van het thema ‘bronnen’.

Tijdens de tentoonstelling vinden er verschillende activiteiten, demonstraties en rondleidingen plaats. Kijk voor informatie hierover en over openingstijden en toegangsprijzen op http://www.boijmans.nl/

Precious Waste at Dutch Design Week 2011

The Dutch Design Week is fast approaching. This year Precious Waste will be part of several -very different- exhibitions.

First of all, the wonderful exhibition ‘Made in Brainport/Six degrees of smart society‘ will be coming to Eindhoven after a very successful premiere in Istanbul with over 30.000 visitors.

Then, the WWF is hosting a sustainable design auction. Many special objects will be exhibited and auctioned throughout the week, among which three beautiful necklaces made of Precious Waste yarn. The highest bidder may choose a WWF project to which the proceeds will be donated.

And lastly there is an exhibition of the results from the Oud=In design workshops, that were given to students of Sint Joris College. The best out of 20 workshops was selected and will be presented together with a film about the project and a presentation of the work of the participating designers.

There’s more still: If you want to see me in action, come see how Precious Waste is made at Post History on monday the 24th. From 13:00 I will be spinning yarns out of plastic bags and serve as a link between future and historical crafts.

OUD=IN Design Studio

Oud=In Design  Studio is een bijzonder project van Design Cooperation Brainport en CultuurStation in samenwerking met RE-U designs, Design Academy Eindhoven en tien ontwerpers.

Dit project neemt 220 scholieren van het Sint-Joriscollege in het kader van de Dutch Design Week mee op een ontdekkingstocht langs design, duurzaamheid, ambachten en hergebruik. Zo leren de jongeren hoe gebruikte materialen door een andere manier van denken interessante nieuwe objecten kunnen opleveren.

Van elke workshop worden de beste resultaten geselecteerd en tentoongesteld in het Stadhuis tijdens de Dutch Design Week. Ook zal er dan een filmregistratie van het project te zien zijn.

De workshops aan de scholieren worden gegeven door tien jonge ontwerpers die ook werk exposeren tijdens de expositie in het Stadhuis: Wies de Jong – Lovesoul, Wieteke Brocken – RE-U designs, Piet Bergman – Plumbum, Nils Verweij, Michelle Baggerman – Bureau Baggerman, Marie-José Hamers, Jo Meesters – Studio Jo Meesters, Arjan van Raadshoven en Anieke Branderhorst – Studio Vij5, Sander Lucas, Esther Derkx.

Made in Brainport exhibition to Istanbul

The travelling exhibition ‘Made in Brainport’ 2011 puts design from Eindhoven into the international limelight.  The exhibition travels the world in a continually changing composition of successful combinations of design and technology from the region. Alongside work by established designers, the show regularly presents work by students of Design Academy Eindhoven.

The exhibition is based upon ’6 Degrees Of  Smart Society’. Themes that are touched upon are technology, farming, environment, craft, health, en local. Different samples, and yarns of Precious Waste are part of the exhibition within the ‘craft’ theme.

From September 28, the exhibition can be viewed during the Istanbul Design Week at Old Galata Bridge. 34110 Istanbul.

Inside Design Amsterdam

Tijdens de achtste editie van Inside Design Amsterdam presenteert ELLE Decoration het ELLE d’ECO pop up hotel, een uniek, tijdelijk hotel ingericht met het mooiste design, dat bovendien allemaal duurzaam is gemaakt.

Samen met toonaangevende merken en ontwerpers creëerde ELLE Decoration met stylingbureau Kamer 465 een pop up designverblijf, dat helemaal is ingericht met gerecycled design. Een prachtige plek, vol inspiratie voor de designliefhebber die duurzaamheid belangrijk vindt. Het pop up hotel is ingericht met meubels en accessoires van gerecycled materiaal. Denk aan krantenkettingen van Vij5, serviesgoed van plastic zakjes van Supercyclers, stof Precious Waste van Bureau Baggerman, een kast van gerecycled hout van Palau, de Navy Chair van Emeco, gemaakt van gerecyclede pet-flessen, en kastjes en lampen uit de serie Pulp van Jo Meesters.

Precious Waste wint “vriendenprijs”

Op zaterdag 28 mei organiseerden de Vrienden van het Textielmuseum de jaarlijkse vriendendag.

Vier jonge ontwerpers die kort geleden zijn afgestudeerd met innovatieve textiel projecten waren uitgenodigd om een presentatie te geven over hun werk en de vrienden te inspireren met hun vernieuwende kijk op textiel. Daarbij werd het meest inspirerende project aan het eind van de dag beloond met een mooie prijs.

Ik was de gelukkige winnaar met Precious Waste. Mijn dank aan alle Vrienden van het Textielmuseum, ik was helemaal ondersteboven van jullie enthousiasme!

Precious Waste at ‘This Way’ exhibition in Milan

Precious Waste has been selected to be part of the exhibition This Way by  Design Academy Eindhoven during the design week (Apr. 12-17) in Milan.

All takes place at Studio Zeta and this year it’s not only an exhibition of recent Design Academy Graduates but also a hub for talks, events and good food.

This Way will be open Wednesday to Saturday 11:00-19:00 and Sunday 11:00-18:00
The adress is: 26, Via Friuli – 20135 Milano (Metro line 3, station Lodi T.I.B.B. )

Precious Waste bij galerie Help U Zelven

Tot en met 10 april is Precious Waste te bewonderen bij galerie Help U Zelven. Ook te zien in de expositie is het werk van vier andere recent afgestudeerde ontwerpers, die zich allemaal op andere manieren bezighouden met hergebruik.

De openingstijden zijn van 12:00 tot 17:00 op wo. t/m za. en elke eerste zondag.
